Today, to kick off National Community Planning Month, SONA had the pleasure of participating in the American Planning Association’s award recognition ceremony. South 24th Street was named one of 15 “Great Places in America”. This award recognizes streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces in the United States that demonstrate exceptional character, quality, and planning.
South 24th Street was recognized for putting pedestrians first, a mosaic installation, and for its unique attributes and amenities. SONA is so pleased to be have been part of the process in creating spaces in our community that are healthy, inclusive, creative economic drivers that open doors of opportunity for all.
“Today’s award represents the vision, but also the history of this area – a history of welcomeness to newcomers, of walkable, safe, public spaces, and of using place to create and foster a sense community and well-being. Clearly, place-based approaches such as the redevelopment of South 24th Street, represent the activation of a core asset of our community, ” said Athena Ramos, President of SONA.
Thanks once again to the American Planning Association for this wonderful recognition!
