DOOR TO DOOR SALES SCAMS
The Omaha Police Department has received complaints regarding people going door to door claiming to be selling books for the University of Nebraska Omaha. We have contacted UNO and they do not have their students going door to door selling books. The complaints have ranged from assertive behavior to requests for cash, checks and keys to a car.
If someone comes to your door to sell you something, and they seem suspicious, please contact 911 so that we can investigate further. Remember, within the city limits of Omaha, peddlers can only sell door to door between 8AM -6PM, and they must have a photo id and a peddlers permit. The only exemption is for “Not For Profit” organizations. For more information on the peddlers’ ordinance you can go to this site: http://www.cityofomaha.org/planning/permits/images/stories/bldg_development/Peddler%20Permit%20Municode.pdf
