Double Roundabout redesign for 42nd & Q
The City of Omaha will hold a Public Hearing in an open house format Wednesday, September 12, 2012, regarding the proposed 42nd and “Q” Street Bridge Replacement and Related Roadway Improvements (MAPA-5057(9); CN22279) project.
The Public Hearing will be held from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Ministerio Jesus Es El Señor Church, 4001 “Q” Street, Omaha, Nebraska. A Public Forum will be held from 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
The project is also known as Omaha Public Works project number 50079. The project is located on “Q” Street and starts at the intersection with 41st Street. The project proceeds to the west along “Q” Street for approximately 1/3 mile to about 200 feet west of the intersection with 44th Street. The project would include the replacement of the existing viaduct (overpass) over the BNSF Railway tracks and reconstruction of the intersections of “Q” Street with 42nd Street on the east and west sides of the viaduct. Reconstruction of 42nd Street would begin approximately 100 feet south of the intersection with P Street, and continue to approximately 150 feet south of “R” Street.
The proposed improvements would include the construction of a new 80 foot long bridge on “Q” Street over the BNSF Railway to provide four-lanes of travel and sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. The 42nd Street intersection with “Q” Street on the west side of the new bridge would be reconstructed as a multi-lane roundabout, providing two travel lanes on the west and south sides of the roundabout. The 42nd Street intersection with “Q” Street on the east side of the new bridge would be reconstructed as a single-lane roundabout.
The proposed project would require the purchase of additional right-of-way (ROW) and temporary construction easements (TE). The City of Omaha does not anticipate any residential or commercial relocation.
The Public Hearing is being held to provide information and receive input regarding the proposed bridge replacement and intersection improvements. All persons interested in the project are invited to attend and present relevant comments and questions. Personnel from the City of Omaha Public Works Department will be present at the public meeting to answer questions and receive comments about the proposed project. The information “open house” format allows the public to come, gather pertinent information about the project, speak one-on-one with project personnel, and leave as they wish. All materials will be presented in both English and Spanish. A translator will be present.
