-SONA celebrated some of the great activities happening in South Omaha on June 7. Thanks to Duane Brooks for his efforts to make it a nice evening and congrats to the volunteer of the year (Oscar Duran), Project of Merit (Hanscom Bark Park), and the celebrated youth of South and Bryan High.
-SONA is still waiting confirmation of the number of youth being placed with us for the STEP UP Omaha program this summer. We expect them to start in the middle of July and spend 5 weeks working on neighborhood and community projects to strengthen South Omaha. If you are interested in having your neighborhood receive their help (painting, graffiti, clean-ups) please send an email to Crystal Rhoades at email@example.com.
-Councilmembers Ben Gray and Chris Jerram are exploring a new way of handling alcohol outlets in the metro. They have requested feedback to this ordinance from citizens. You can read more here: https://sonaomaha.org/2012/06/28/possible-new-zoning-to-address-alcohol-outlets/
-County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps has requested feedback on the polling places changes he proposes from the general election. He requests all feedback by tomorrow July 3 at 5pm. http://votedouglascounty.org/proposed_reprecincting/index.aspx
-As a reminder SONA is committed to being a strong partner in the battle against graffiti. We have committed more than $2000 this year towards supplies. If you need a kit for your neighborhood, please let us know. -SONA is also working with Mayor as part of the Landlord Task Force. SONA was asked to be the citizen voice on that committee that is expected to issue recommendations to the Mayor near the end of July. If you have any comments please send them to Mike Battershell firstname.lastname@example.org
-In Deer Park Neighborhood, The Hardware Gallery is hosting pop-up conversations burgers, beverages, hot dogs and apple pie. Fireworks at 10pm (18th & Vinton)
-Field Club Neighborhood Fourth of July Parade is Wednesday July 4 and 10:30am all are welcome. (Woolworth & 36th)
-Midtown Neighborhood Alliance and Field Club are again sponsoring Midtown Sparkles fireworks on July 5. Grab a blanket and head on over around dusk (9pm) to see the show.
